PhoenixOfLight's Mini Bio:Hello, and welcome to this unique little corner of the World-Wide Web! My nom de plume, as it were, is "PhoenixOfLight", and I'm the founder of this Phoenix of Light Network (including this site and the Liberty Lamp publication. I've created this specific page for the purpose of giving readers a little background into who I am and what I stand for.At present, I'm a university student at a truly outstanding institution on the West Coast. My time is split between life in the Northwest during the academic year, and in the Southwest during holidays/work. Currently, I am employed on a part time, contract basis at a cutting-edge molecular biology lab in Southern California. As a member of the Research Computing department there, it is my job to help employees with various client-side computer issues as well as to maintain and improve the quality and number of network services. In fact, we have one of the most sophisticated server and data gathering/analysis systems in the country, surpassing even those at money soaked, prestigious institutions such as the University of Southern California (USC)! If you're not jealous now, just let it sink in for a few minutes. :) Politically speaking, I'm a Libertarian if it was not already obvious. Libertarians advocate self-reliance, small government, free-market capitalist economics, and liberty/justice/equality for all Americans- no exceptions! I am involved with a number of political action organizations, such as Democracy Matters and the Downsize DC group. Then there is of course The Bill of Rights Defense Committee and the California Clean clean/public financing elections project. For entertainment, I like to spend time out doors, play Day of Defeat, and screw around with computers. After observing the libertarian scene for about a year, I became more and more frustrated with the lack of organization and tangible action all the rhetoric was actually fomenting. Thus, this web site was begun with the intention of stimulating such action at the grass roots, by informing and bringing together disparate like-minded individuals into a larger coalition. Is it working? Perhaps. This site is becoming steadily more popular, as is awareness of libertarianism as a whole. In my home town, a local Libertarian candidate even has a good chance of winning the election! Though no one may ever quite know the truth, I hope that I'm helping the situation in at least some small way. |
